Why is Opentracker Moving So Fast?
We rebuilt our core technologies, implemented an API and changed our development methodology. We moved from MySQL to Cassandra, improved search features, and implemented Agile throughout our organisation. This makes feature development much easier for us and our customers. Opentracker is better at change than ever; fast, state-of-the-art, flexible, responsive, and industry-standard (like Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Twitter).
What This Means in Practice
We have a greatly increased flexibility through the means of a web analytics API, which we use ourselves to provide:
- An OT Dashboard: A traffic engagement dashboard giving you a real-time view of who is on your site.
- Universal Search: A real-time 'Google search' through all your traffic and visitor data — a search bar located at the top of the Recent & Online visits report page.
- Search for Any Activity on Any Page: A search bar at the top of the Most Popular Pages report.
- Add Any Event to Your Reports: A payment, a download, a scroll down, a sign-up, etc — all searchable.
- User-Tagging: Add names, email addresses, and login IDs to visitor profiles, using manual or automated functions.
The Technology Behind It
Moving from MySQL to Apache Cassandra was a major architectural shift. Cassandra, used by Facebook, Netflix, and Instagram, is designed for high availability and massive scale. This means Opentracker can now handle much larger volumes of data without sacrificing speed or reliability — critical for real-time analytics.
Agile Development
Adopting Agile meant we could release smaller, more frequent updates rather than large, infrequent releases. The result is a product that improves every two weeks, with features shaped directly by customer feedback. If something isn't working for you, we can fix it — fast.
Conclusion
Opentracker's speed, flexibility, and modern technology stack make it uniquely suited to handle the demands of modern digital analytics. Whether you need real-time visitor tracking, custom event logging, or deep audience segmentation, Opentracker is built to deliver — and getting better all the time.
