Customised Tracking URLs - google adwords how to track a PPC

Tracking your PPC campaigns can be done with some customization.

How to work with adwords & opentracker.

The text below explains how to create a customised url in google adwords. Overture calls this 'tracking urls'.
A customised, or tracking, url will give the url link to your site a unique component that will make it easier to see how many clicks are followed to your site.

Below you will find an example of a customised url.

Here is a sample question about this topic:

Q: We have turned tracking URLs on with Overture.
Opentracker is now identifying these as having come from Overture.
I've checked the Google AdWords help but I can't find any guidance about how to turn them on there or what we need to add to the url to turn it into a tracking URL.
If you have any suggestions we would appreciate it.

A: The answer to your question is that there is an option which you can turn on which will cause Overture to automatically assign unique tracking url titles for you, Google adwords does not do this automatically. The Overture feature is called "Overture tracking url" it can be found in Overture under account >> account setup.

To do this yourself, for Google Adwords:

You need to place a query string behind the link in the advertisements. For example, http://www.mysite.com/?referrer=google.

You can create customized urls for each ad campaign in the Adwords administration area.

The place to assign this name is in each advertisement where you define the link to which your visitors are sent. If you paste this example in, you will see it show up in your Opentracker results when the next visitor comes through google.

You will see the results of these efforts in your Top Lists>> Entry Pages report. You will also see the pages listed separately under Top Pages. Top entry pages is the best place to get this info. When looking at the reports in Top Pages, you can hover your mouse over any page title & see the full url in the status bar (bottom-left hand side of the screen). This will enable you to see your specific Google query strings / customized urls.

(An alternative is to create separate pages where visitors from specific campaigns are sent).

?referrer?=google

to track the entries coming from google..

what about those cloaked links

for example,
example://www.i-search-you.com/reviews/000webhost.html

example://www.i-search-you.com/reviews/doteasy.html

the above is 2 link regarding as offer of free web host.
how to add ?referrer?=google. because they forward to another website,
do ID after ? can also be trasffered to their website?

a note about the customised URLs as discussed here:

these customizations need to be entered in the back-end of your advertising ad management system.

In the ad management system you can add:

1. the display URL and
2. the "destination url"

the display url is shown in the ads. The destination url shows up in the url.

Opentracker collects information from the incoming urls (also known as destination urls).

Therefore, the answer to the question is that yes, you would add "?referrer?=google" if the ad was from your google ad campaign.

This concept can be expanded to pass on information about sub-categories in your ad campaign so that you can see which URLs bring in more traffic. We will be posting more about this in the future when we release our Conversion Reporting tool.

Hello,

I am a new user to OpenTracker and am quite baffled.  I was hoping to understand how many people are clicking on my Google AdWords ads - above and beyond the norm.  I see that a lot of visitors are referred? by Google but that can be via my ads or through direct/organic traffic.  What do I need to do to see this difference?

Thanks in advance.
